Southern Region I Highlights

The region offers many ways for large and small Water/Wastewater Agencies to find assistance during emergency response as well as get involved in helping to prepare the region for local emergencies and major disasters.

WEROC

The purpose of the Water Emergency Response Organization of Orange County (WEROC) is to coordinate and support an effective emergency response to a major disaster on behalf of all Orange County water agencies. To carry out this mission WEROC provides services that promote planning and preparedness activities for both the agencies, as well as its own Emergency Operations Center volunteer staff. The program also takes an active role in maintaining two EOCs and emergency response equipment for use during a disaster.

PWAG

The Public Water Agencies Group (PWAG) is a professional association consisting of 21 entities - retail water districts, irrigation districts and wholesale municipal water districts, mutual water companies, as well as a watermaster - who provide drinking and recycled water throughout Los Angeles County. The Emergency Response Group (ERG) program has been working to help participating PWAG member agencies become and stay prepared for disasters for nearly a decade. ERG member agencies share costs for a full-time Emergency Management Coordinator; participate in emergency planning, response and recovery training and exercises; and coordinate to provide mutual aid during and after disasters. ERG members maintain a PWAG radio network for emergency communications and share three portable generators for emergency power needs.
